The incident occurred at approximately 4:20 pm, leaving the community and authorities in shock and mourning.

The Voi Officer Commanding Police Division (OCPD), Bernstein Shari, confirmed the grim details of the accident. He revealed that the calamity unfolded when a 14-seater matatu, owned by Chania Genesis Sacco, was en route from Nairobi to Mombasa. In a tragic turn of events, the matatu collided head-on with a cargo truck traveling in the opposite direction. The impact of the collision was so severe that twelve passengers in the matatu lost their lives on the spot, leaving a trail of sorrow and devastation in its wake.
