At approximately 11:30 AM, a report was filed at Kangeta Police Station by David Mwongera, a 52-year-old Meru resident, regarding a serious assault incident. According to Mwongera, his son, Emilio Kimathi, alerted him around 7:15 AM that a thief, identified as Gerald Gitonga, was caught stealing miraa at their farm in the Mukolene area of Kathelwa location.
Kimathi pursued Gitonga, catching up with him at the main road, where he reportedly chopped Gitonga’s left hand at the wrist. Gitonga was promptly rushed to Kangeta Health Centre, where he received initial first aid before being referred to Meru General Hospital for further treatment. The severed hand was recovered from the scene and also transported to the hospital for assessment.
In response to the incident, authorities arrested Emilio Kimathi, 26, and have placed him in custody. He is expected to be arraigned before court tomorrow to face charges related to the assault case.
The investigation into the matter is ongoing, and updates will be provided as the situation unfolds.
