Embakasi: Gas Explosion Incident

In Embakasi, four suspects, including the gas plant owner Derrick Kimathi and NEMA officials Joseph Makau, David Walunya Ong’are, and Marrian Mutete Kioko, were arrested in connection with a fatal gas explosion. The suspects will be held in police custody for 21 days to facilitate investigations. Babu Owino urged Kenyans to contribute to help the victims, with seven dead and over 280 injured.

ROTICH APPOINTED TO STATE JOB

Former Treasury Cabinet Secretary Henry Rotich was appointed as the Senior Advisor on Fiscal Affairs and Budget Policy in the office of President William Ruto. However, Rotich declined the appointment, expressing his belief that he would serve the country better if deployed to the Central Bank of Kenya, where he had previously worked.



JOWIE FOUND GUILTY OF MURDER

Joseph Irungu, known as Jowie, was found guilty of murdering Monica Kimani in 2018. Irungu’s lawyer, Hassan Nandwa, announced plans to appeal the verdict. Meanwhile, journalist Jacque Maribe was acquitted in the same case, as the prosecution failed to provide sufficient evidence against her.



EMBU TEACHER COMMITS SUICIDE

In Mbeere North sub-county, a 32-year-old high school teacher, Dennis Mwaniki Njeru, took his own life in a suspected case of love gone sour. The teacher left a suicide note expressing frustration, and police discovered a chemical suspected to be insecticide in his house. Additionally, land title deeds and stamps were found, suggesting fraudulent activities.

HIGH COURT HALTS ECITIZEN PAYMENT OF SCHOOL FEES

The High Court in Nairobi temporarily halted the government’s directive for parents to pay school fees through the eCitizen platform. Judge Chacha Mwita suspended the circular issued by Education PS Belio Kipsang, citing concerns raised by a petition filed by Dr. Magare Gikenyi. President William Ruto affirmed that the digitization process would continue.

DCI SEIZES BANG; ARRESTS MADE

DCI Anti-Narcotic detectives intercepted a vehicle ferrying 132 bales of bhang at Kyanunda area along the Garissa-Thika Road. Two men, Daniel Yohana and Ismael Wako, were arrested. In a joint operation, a false bottom in the truck concealed an additional 104 bales. Separately, Mary Adhiambo and Charles Kimani Wanjiku were arrested on drug trafficking charges.

ISAAC MWAURA ANNOUNCES PASSPORT PRINTING MACHINES

Government Spokesperson Isaac Mwaura announced the arrival of two new passport printing machines by the end of February. This comes in response to delays in passport issuance, with assurances that an additional 100,000 passports are being processed. Mwaura urged citizens to promptly collect the 70,000 passports waiting at Immigration offices.
